Since 1979, Hong Kong has participated in the country's reform and opening up, and for more than 40 years, Hong Kong has interacted frequently with the mainland, making use of its economic, technological, social and cultural advantages to invest in the development and construction of the country, helping the country to become the world's second largest economy and a global trading power, while also successfully transforming into a service-oriented economy, laying a solid foundation for its status as an international financial center and shipping center.

This book is the first monograph of Hong Kong Chronicles to give a comprehensive account of Hong Kong's participation in the country's reform and opening up as a "participant", "witness", "contributor" and "beneficiary" from the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in December 1978 to 2017. Hong Kong has made irreplaceable and significant contributions to the country's reform and opening up, and has also benefited from the rapid development of the Mainland, successfully transforming into an important bridge between the Mainland and the world market, establishing and consolidating Hong Kong's status as a centre for international commerce, logistics, shipping, finance and professional services.

Divided into two volumes, a total of 19 chapters, two appendices, and a memorabilia, with more than 1 million words, the content is mainly economic, financial, and social and cultural fields, and 85 experts, scholars and relevant institutions review the manuscript and provide valuable advice, and 22 reviewers, including scholars, former government officials and leaders in various fields, strictly control the paper, providing accurate and comprehensive references for understanding and researching the interaction and cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland.
