In the past, villagers of Wai Village in the New Territories gathered around the hearth to share "poon choi", a traditional choypoa dish in a wooden pot containing multiple kinds of vegetables, on days of unique significance to the village, such as weddings, sacrifices, "lighting of lanterns", and Jiao making. In the past two or three decades, food bowls have become a popular food culture in Hong Kong, reflecting the interaction between urban and rural areas in Hong Kong in recent years, and profoundly witnessing the changes in Hong Kong society. This book records in detail the stories of the four villages about the food bowl, so as to understand the ritual process behind the food bowl and the relationship between the food bowl and the activities of these clan communities through the ritual. At the same time, it explores the cultural connotation of the bowl itself, and by extension, explains how "tradition" as a dynamic concept has been constantly revised and interpreted to meet the needs of the times.
