Tie making, also known as paper tie, is a folk craft with a long history. The tie-making master uses simple materials such as bamboo strips, gauze paper, and paste, and relies on his skillful hands and experience to produce ty-making works with ever-changing appearances. To this day, in traditional festivals or festivals in Hong Kong, it is still used to tie artworks, such as lion heads, dragon heads, lanterns, fireworks, and paper offerings such as gold and silver clothes, paper bags, etc.
Zha Zuo is both far and close to the lives of Hong Kong people, and involves a wide range of areas. The book is divided into three chapters: history, skills and culture, and introduces Hong Kong's paper crafting skills from different aspects. In addition to an introduction to the basic principles and techniques of tie-making, supplemented by explanations on the production of nine traditional tie-making works, it also tells the stories of Hong Kong's paper-making skills from cultural traditions, changes in the industry, guild organization, export trade, and official publicity activities.
